Features
An AI Agent you can watch work
Most AI agent interfaces show text after the fact. DeskFamiliar makes the working process feel visible while it is happening.
Ready-to-use Agents. Open bridge.
DeskFamiliar includes a complete companion experience powered by Hermes Agent and DeskFamiliar Cloud. Codex and Claude Code also connect out of the box for local, read-only character visualization — no bridge code or DeskFamiliar rebuild required. The agent-neutral bridge is MIT-licensed and open source. Developers can connect any other Agent with an adapter or a Windows local process plugin, without changing the 3D character runtime.
- Complete built-in companion experience powered by Hermes Agent
- Ready-to-use character visualization for Codex and Claude Code
- Any other Agent through an adapter or Windows local process plugin
- One small, versioned character-action language across every integration
- External connections do not replace their Agent's chat, tools, approvals, or permissions
Tool calls you can see
When the connected Agent reports a file read, your companion can open a book and study. When it reports a write, the character can cast a writing spell. Thinking, tool use, waiting, completion, and errors become the same readable character language no matter which supported Agent is active.
- Six readable states: idle, reading, writing, waiting, completed, error
- The full state table below shows exactly what maps to what

Permission-aware built-in Agent
The complete built-in Agent experience is designed around transparent work. It should show what it is doing and ask before risky actions. External Agent connections visualize activity only and keep their own approval and permission systems.
- Read-first defaults
- Confirmation before file writes
- Confirmation before command execution
- Extra care for dangerous actions
- Visible tool activity and status — and no way to switch confirmations off entirely
Built-in AI, ready out of the box
The built-in AI runs on DeskFamiliar Cloud. Bind your Steam account inside the app and you get a free quota that refreshes every month — no API keys, no third-party sign-ups, nothing to configure. When you need more, one-time quota packs are available through your Steam Wallet, and purchased quota never expires.
- Free monthly quota with your Steam account
- One-time quota packs — no subscription
- The gateway never stores your conversations or file contents
Lives quietly on your desktop
DeskFamiliar is a desktop-first experience: a transparent, borderless window that floats beside your work. It stays out of the way, hides during full-screen apps, and is always one glance away.
- Transparent floating character window
- System tray and quick access
- Auto-hides during full-screen apps
Expandable characters and actions
The base experience focuses on the default characters and the core work loop. Four familiars are available today, each acting out the loop in its own way. The longer-term vision includes skins, animation packs, expressions, voice packs, scenes, and advanced interaction effects.
- Lumen, Mochi, Newton and Einstein
- Character-specific interactions and props
- A roster that keeps growing
Tool calls you can see
Instead of hiding an AI agent behind a chat box or a plain activity log, DeskFamiliar brings the agent's work onto your desktop as a living visual presence.

|---|---|---|
| Idle | No task is running | Calm presence and idle motion |
